FabTrol MRP Version 3.2 released

FabTrol Systems adds integration with plate nesting software and a detailer material definitions’ export

EUGENE, OR - With its recent release of FabTrol MRP Version 3.2, FabTrol Systems' integrated fabrication management software provides steel fabricators with the ability to:

  • Integrate FabTrol MRP with third-party plate nesting software, such as ProNest and SigmaNest.
  • Export their material definitions and translation tables so that detailers who own FabTrol MRP can validate their exports before sending them to the steel fabricator.

Plate nesting integration

FabTrol MRP now includes a plate nesting export that provides electronic communication from FabTrol MRP to an external plate nesting engine. The export bundles parts to cut, associated CNC data if available in the model, and available stock.

With this added capability, fabricators who use FabTrol MRP can now:

  • Export a list of parts and part quantities to cut to a third-party nesting engine.
  • Track which parts are exported or cut.
  • Include associated CNC data in the export so that shaped parts (gussets, stiffeners, flanges, etc.) can be nested accurately.
  • Associate plate parts with stock plate to establish and maintain full traceability.

To facilitate coordination with the production plan, stock and parts can be filtered (e.g., by material type, sequence, production batch, etc.) before export. FabTrol MRP keeps track of what has or has not been exported, making it easy to track parts remaining to be cut. After cutting, the original nest can be updated from the marked-up cut list, swapping planned plates, when necessary, for those actually used in the shop.

The plate nesting export replaces manual data entry of FabTrol MRP information into the fabricator’s plate nesting software. In addition, the export provides automatic part tracking and elimination of errors resulting from incorrect manual data entry.

Detailer export

Often, fabricators spend a great deal of time cleaning up drawing data during import. With the detailer export, the fabricator can quickly provide the detailer with material definitions and translation tables that match those that have been set up in FabTrol MRP.
On the detailer end, the export can be restored by the detailer and used to ensure that the model data matches the material definitions supplied by the fabricator. The detailer can maintain multiple material definition sets, restoring the appropriate one when detailing a job for a specific fabricator.

The detailer export further enhances FabTrol MRP’s ability to support seamless data exchange between partners in the fabrication process.

The recently added detailer and plate nesting exports build on FabTrol MRP’s existing ability to serve as an integrating information hub in the steel fabrication industry. Fabricators familiar with FabTrol MRP’s integrated fabrication management software will appreciate the potential for simplifying the process while increasing speed and reducing errors with both exports. For fabricators using plate nesting software, they can now integrate with FabTrol MRP’s material and production management capabilities to track parts in FabTrol MRP for seamless project management and material traceability. For detailers interested in providing trouble-free, quick turn-around on drawings and revisions, use of the fabricator’s detailer export will ensure full compatibility with their customers’ material definitions and translation tables.
